This post is all about business casual outfit staples for college students
1. A Well-Fitted Blazer
A blazer is an ultimate college wardrobe essential that is great for creating a polished look. It instantly elevates your outfit, creating the perfect look for interviews, presentations, or conferences.
I recommend choosing a neutral color like black, navy, or grey so it will match your outfit. You can try layering your blazer over a blouse and slacks or keep it casual with some dark jeans and a plain t-shirt.
2. Classic Button-Down Shirts
A button-down shirt is a must have in any college closet. It works for class presentations, attending office hours, or even a risky business themed party!
Make sure to start with a base of neutral colors and then work your way up to other colors as needed. The pinstripe style adds the perfect amount of flair to a boring outfit. I recommend styling a button up with basic high-waisted slacks, a work appropriate skirt, or even jeans.
3. Tailored Trousers
A few pairs of trousers are by far my most-loved business casual outfit staples. Investing in a pair of trousers that fit you perfectly is a great way to prioritize your academic and career success. Make sure to choose neutral shades, so you can create a ton of different outfits.
Most importantly, choose a pair of pants that are comfortable, since you will wear them quite often. You can pair them with a blazer for an ultra professional look or tone them down with a sweater or cardigan.
4. Comfortable Flats or Loafers
The next college wardrobe essential is a comfortable yet stylish pair of shoes. Flats and loafers are my go-to since they are easy to wear and pull your outfit together. You can add a touch of pizazz by choosing a metal design or a platform like the shoes here.
A platform loafer is great if you want extra height or if your pants are too long! You can even choose a colorful shoe if you want.
5. A Structured Tote Bag
Finally, tote bags are great business casual outfit staples because they hold your computer, notebooks, lunch, and anything else you may need as a college student and intern! They pull your look together by adding a professional and organized touch.
Choose a neutral color to match your business casual outfits as well as a leather material, to ensure that your bag will last. Multiple compartments are also a must-have when purchasing a tote bag.
Building a wardrobe as a college student with business casual outfit staples doesn’t have to be expensive or overwhelming! By investing in these five staples—a blazer, button-down shirts, tailored trousers, comfortable flats or loafers, and a structured tote—you’ll be prepared for any opportunity that comes your way.
Start curating your wardrobe today to prepare for the future!
