So without further ado: My College Move In Day Must Haves
Last year in the midst of Covid I had to pack for college and boy was it a mess…lol. Packing to drive 7 hours to my school in one trip was definitely rough.
Not to mention that I am a triplet, so I had brothers moving around the same time.
Anyways, I’ve compiled a list of the utmost essentials for making sure your packing goes smoothly for your college move in day. If anything, I learned the hard way on how to move in effortlessly haha.
1. Ikea Bags
OMG these bags are amazing! They hold so much and even can even be worn as a backpack when your hands are already full of other bags.
These are definitely a must have for your college move in day.
Plus you can easily store them inside of each other or fold them up.
You can buy the Ikea Frakta bags from Amazon in a four pack.
2. Space Saving Bags
These things save an immense amount of space and are great for bedding and clothes! You can even seal up your winter clothes and leave them packed nice and tight until you need them.
Space is everything in college dorms and apartments. That’s why I’ve linked these space saving storage bags here.
3. Rubbermaid Tubs
These are an oldie but a goodie. You can fit a lot in these tubs, especially the fragile stuff!
If you’re a mug hoarder or have some fragile decor you can easily put it in these tubs and know that they will have a safe trip.
Also, these Rubbermaid tubs are easily stackable so more space!! (Remember how important space is).
4. Tarp
Okay this one may sound confusing but hear me out.
If you happen to be traveling with a truck bed this tarp is 100% a necessity.
You do NOT want your precious cargo falling out before your college move in day. That would be awful.
I’ve watched items fall out of student’s cars before. :0
5. Moving Wrap
This was so essential to me during college move in day for my bigger items. For example, I wrapped my ikea cart in moving wrap so my items would stay put!
You can wrap anything with drawers so nothing moves. You can even wrap your mini fridge like I did!
That way you can wrap your storage drawers/carts and have less to unpack.
7. Patience
Last but not least… patience. College move in day is stressful for anyone; even more so if you aren’t close to home.
Give yourself grace for taking your next step into adulthood and breatheeee.
You don’t have to do everything a million miles a minute.
Take a break, explore your new campus, and relish the little time you have left with you loved ones before they leave you to experience college for yourself.
As always, I hope you enjoyed this post and feel more relaxed about the idea of college move in day. It is coming up after all!
