Here’s my desk from my freshman year dorm. I spent most of my time there with online classes.
It was definitely one of my favorite places!
The Importance of a Functional Dorm Desk
For me, having a clean and organized workspace is the key to success.
If I don’t have an ideal workspace I will get nothing done. That’s a problem.
Especially when you’re a full time college student that’s working towards a degree.
Yes you’ve heard C’s get degrees butttt I personally strive for the highest grade possible.
So let’s discuss some dorm desk essentials that will help motivate you to get those straight A’s.
Technology
Before we even start talking about all of the knickknacks that your desk can have we must talk about technology.
AKA a laptop, Ipad, or desktop.
As we all know, pretty much everything is online nowadays so to make your life easier you need some form of technology.
You don’t even need the latest technology, just something that allows you to turn in your work.
There’s so many technology deals out there for college students so start looking now!
Most of the time college bookstores have discounts on technology.
My school has $100 off of Ipads and Macbooks right now. That’s insane!
Listen, every penny counts.
Lighting
We all have different preference of lighting but you need to be able to see at your desk. Otherwise you won’t get any work done!
As a college student, you’re going to need to work during the day and night to be productive. I know, I know, ew homework.
Therefore, you need quality lighting during the day and substantial lighting at night.
You can purchase a lamp, twinkle lights, or LED lights to brighten up your workspace!
Having cute lights might even motivate you to get your buttload of college assignments done hahaha.
Check out this cute desk lamp. Which is very similar to what I had.
Or this desk lamp. My roommate had this lamp and it had so many modes.
Honestly, I wish I had bought it too.
And these twinkle lights and LED options.
These extra light options always seem to be popular in college, especially in dorms.
Dorm lighting is AWFUL.
Optimizing Space
Most of the time your space in your college living environment whether that be a dorm, apartment, or house can be very small.
That’s why it’s important to optimize your desk space so you don’t feel cluttered!
I personally purchased this bookshelf from Amazon because you can arrange it in many different ways.
Not to mention it held A LOT.
You can also get some sort of storage box or stationary holder for all of your supplies.
Here’s one similar to the one I had:
There are so many options out there.
Even from the Dollar store or Target dollar section!
I love to buy organizational supplies for cheap.
Decorations
Okay, now we’re ready for the fun part…decorating!!
I found that having a cute dorm desk increased my motivation to get my schoolwork done.
I really liked this contact paper so I could add a little flair to my desk.
Also, I enjoyed putting my favorite little knickknacks and pictures around my desk so I felt more at home. Like these ones from Amazon.
Your desk doesn’t have to be boring! Give it some life. 🙂
As always, thanks for reading! Now go buy some dorm desk essentials.
With love,
